Our Primary Schools Programme

The Marine Dimensions Primary Education Programme was set up in 2004 with a view to raising awareness for Ireland's natural heritage and marine wildlife. It was also envisaged that it would provide support for teachers interested in teaching marine biology and ecology. A range of resources have now been developed through the programme, including indoor workshops, field trips, science projects and education materials. The programme has been a great success and our team of marine biologists now regularly visit schools all year round.

Our mobile marine education programme includes a range of learning options for schools.

The Marine Experience workshop is a wonderful indoor option, bringing Ireland’s underwater world into the classroom, whereas the Marine Explorer encourages learning through discovery and exploration on the seashore. Both workshops introduce children to the wonders of nature and the marine environment.

The workshops have been designed to complement each other; they can be run independently or combined for maximum effect. It is also possible to adapt the workshops for adult audiences, including teacher training events. With over twelve years’ experience guiding schools on coastal field trips, we can also provide advice on suitable locations for excursions.
