2020 update: Virtual event ideas – online talks, workshops and tours

We’ve recently been very busy adapting our events to work around COVID restrictions in order to keep everyone safe and we’re now delighted to be providing engaging virtual events.  This includes our popular Marine Experience workshop and Introduction to Marine Biology for Teens course!

We’re also in the process of innovating our popular courses, with new adapted options planned for 2021.

Please do sign up to our mailing list to be kept informed.

Whether you are a young person considering a career in marine biology, or a nature enthusiast who’d just like to know more about Ireland’s fascinating marine wildlife, we have a workshop for you!

School Visits / Outdoor and virtual classrooms / Virtual Speakers for Schools

The Marine Experience workshop is a popular indoor option for primary schools, bringing Ireland’s underwater world into the classroom, whereas The Marine Explorer encourages learning through discovery and exploration on the seashore.  Both workshops introduce children to the wonders of nature and the marine environment.

The workshops have been designed to complement each other; they can be run independently or combined for maximum effect. It is also possible to adapt the workshops for adult audiences, including teacher training events. With over fifteen years’ experience guiding schools on coastal field trips, we can also provide advice on suitable locations for excursions.

Our marine environmental educators have also been developing new workshops for the Marine Institute’s Explorer Education Programme this year, which includes Seashore Safaris and Marine Project modules available to Dublin and Wicklow primary schools free of charge.

All these marine biology classes are compatible with the following curricula and programmes:

– SESE curriculum: Living Things, Environmental Awareness and Care.

– Green Schools Programme; Theme 8, Global Citizenship – Marine Environment, Theme 3, Water and Theme 5, Biodiversity.

– Discover Primary Science Scientific Awards of Excellence; Step 2, Visiting Scientist and Step 4, Explorative Activity.

Kids Summer Camps

Our engaging Kids Sea Camps generally run over the summer school holidays and are a popular option for kids interested in nature and the outdoors.

Courses for Teens

Our Introduction to Marine Biology for Teens course is a popular option for teens, especially those interested in pursuing a career in marine biology.

Sailing Clubs, Diving Clubs and Sea Scouts

We also provide private lectures and marine biology classes to a wide range of interest groups in Ireland. Our seashore safaris and indoor workshops always receive great feedback.  Please get in touch if you are interested in an educational event for your own organisation or group.

If you have any questions or would like to book a visit, please give us a call at 01 2828876 or contact us here.  One of our team members would be delighted to help!
